Portugal maintains position within EU context in GCR 2008-2009

According to the 2008-2009 Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) published by the World Economic Forum, Portugal occupies the 43rd position in the ranking of the Global Competitiveness Index of the134 countries investigated. In the context of the EU27, Portugal overcame Lithuania but was passed by Cyprus, thus maintaining the 17th position it occupied in the previous edition, being ahead of countries like Italy or Greece.

Doing Business 2009 - Country Profile for Portugal

Portugal is ranked 48 out of 181 economies in the “Doing Business 2009” of the World Bank, which evaluates the environment for business. Singapore is the top ranked economy in the Ease of Doing Business.

OECD Territorial Reviews: Portugal just published

The overall aim of the territorial review series is to provide practical policy advice to national governments. The “OECD Territorial Reviews: Portugal”, which is integrated into this wider programme of national territorial reviews undertaken by the OECD Territorial Development Policy Committe, analyses how a paradigm shift in regional policy, building on the knowledge of both public and private stakeholders in specific regions (ranging from dynamic urban areas on the coast to lagging inland areas), could help Portugal fully exploit its potential for sustainable development.
