According to the European Innovation Scoreboard commissioned by the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission Portugal's innovation performance has been increasing relative to the average EU trend over the past five years.

The 2008 Index of Economic Freedom of the Heritage Foundation covers 162 countries across 10 specific freedoms such as trade freedom, business freedom, investment freedom, and property rights.

Segundo o Painel Europeu da Inovação, da iniciativa da Comissão Europeia, o desempenho em inovação de Portugal tem vindo a aumentar em relação à tendência média da UE ao longo dos últimos cinco anos.

O Índice de Liberdade Económica 2008 da Heritage Foundation abrange 162 países e analisa 10 tópicos específicos sobre liberdade económica, nomeadamente ao nível do comércio, negócios, investimento e direitos de propriedade.

No quadro da actualização trimestral da base de dados da plataforma where-to-invest-in-portugal.com, foram actualizados 24 indicadores dentro das dimensões "Qualidade de vida", "Emprego e desemprego", "Actividade económica", e "Impostos e investimentos do Estado".
