Each year since 1990 the Human Development Report of the United Nations Development Programme UNPF has published the human development index (HDI) which looks beyond GDP to a broader definition of well-being.

According to the "Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008" from the World Economic Forum, Portugal holds the 28th position in the "Networked Readiness Index (NRI)", which measures the degree of preparation, participation and development of a country regarding to the use of the benefits of information and communications technologies.

The Government today announced an investment of 24,9 million euros for the installation of an industrial unit of automotive components in Ponte de Lima, which will create 207 jobs.
The contract was signed between the Portuguese Government and Dalphimetal Espana, Safe-Life and SAFEBAG, for which a factory will be constructed.

O Governo anunciou hoje um investimento de 24,9 milhões de euros para instalação de uma fábrica de componentes de segurança automóvel em Ponte de Lima, que vai criar de 207 postos de trabalho.
O contrato foi assinado entre o Estado Português e a Dalphimetal Espana, a Safe-Life, e a SAFEBAG, e destina-se à construção de uma unidade fabril desta última empresa.
