The Eurostat regional yearbook 2008 includes chapters on population, urban statistics, GDP, household accounts, structural business statistics, labour market, transport, tourism, science, technology and innovation, health and agriculture. The publication also contains two new subjects; labour costs and sectoral productivity.

The World Economic Forum’s review assesses the progress made by the EU member countries in the far-reaching goals of the EU’s Lisbon Strategy of economic and structural reforms.

According to the 2008-2009 Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) published by the World Economic Forum, Portugal occupies the 43rd position in the ranking of the Global Competitiveness Index of the134 countries investigated. In the context of the EU27, Portugal overcame Lithuania but was passed by Cyprus, thus maintaining the 17th position it occupied in the previous edition, being ahead of countries like Italy or Greece.

Portugal is ranked 48 out of 181 economies in the "Doing Business 2009" of the World Bank, which evaluates the environment for business. Singapore is the top ranked economy in the Ease of Doing Business.

O “Eurostat Regional Yearbook 2008” inclui capítulos sobre população, estatísticas urbanas, PIB, contas nacionais, estatísticas das empresas, mercado de trabalho, transporte, turismo, ciência, tecnologia e inovação, saúde, e agricultura. Esta publicação contém ainda dois novos temas: custo do trabalho e produtividade sectorial.

O relatório do Fórum Económico Mundial “Lisbon Review 2008”, é o quarto de uma série bienal que avalia o progresso dos países da União Europeia relativamente às reformas económicas e estruturais para concretização dos objectivos da Estratégia de Lisboa.

De acordo com o Relatório de Competitividade Global 2008-2009 publicado pelo Fórum Económico Mundial, Portugal ocupa a 43.ª posição no Índice de Competitividade Global entre 134 países estudados. Entre os países da União Europeia, Portugal ultrapassou a Lituânia mas foi por sua vez ultrapassado pelo Chipre, pelo que mantém a posição que ocupava anteriormente (17ª), estando à frente de países como Itália ou Grécia.

Portugal encontra-se em 48º lugar entre 181 economias no relatório “Doing Business 2009” do Banco Mundial, que avalia o ambiente para realização de negócios. Singapura lidera o ranking de facilidade para fazer negócios.
