Portugal ranked seventh in “Global Peace Index 2008”

The London-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a leading centre of global economic and political analysis, ranked Portugal among the most peaceful nations of the world in its ‘Global Peace Index’.
The list shows Portugal in seventh place with 1,412 points on a scale of one to five, where one is the best grade. The survey covered 140 countries and Portugal was considered to be a country politically stable and free from civil unrest since the mid 1980s, having very good relations with neighbouring countries, as well as a very low level of violent crime.
