The report “Economic Policy Reforms: Going for Growth 2008”, published by the OECD, shows a range of progress achieved in the structural policies of the 30 OECD countries. With regard to Portugal progress made in areas important for competitiveness, like the reduction of barriers for network industries (mainly gas and telecommunications), the reform of the educational system and the reform of Public Administration is highlighted.
The report also identifies policy priorities for each state. For Portugal are suggested: improvement of the frequency in secondary and higher education; reduction of barriers to competition; reformulation of labour legislation in order to facilitate the increase of productivity, continuation of reforming public administration and simplification of the tax system.
