This is one of the conclusions revealed by the “Global Enabling Trade Report‚ published by the World Economic Forum which includes 118 countries. Considering the 27 EU member states Portugal ranks 7th.

According to OECD’s Economic Outlook nr 83 published in June 2008 Portugal's expansion continued in 2007. The budget deficit shrank further in 2007, falling below 3% of GDP.

Europe in Figures - Eurostat Yearbook 2008 which is published by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities provides users of official statistics with an overview of the wealth of information. It shows how key indicators have developed during the last eleven years in the EU27, the euro area, the Member States and the Candidate countries. Data for the EFTA countries, the US and Japan are included when available.

The report “Economic Policy Reforms: Going for Growth 2008‚, published by the OECD, shows a range of progress achieved in the structural policies of the 30 OECD countries. With regard to Portugal progress made in areas important for competitiveness, like the reduction of barriers for network industries (mainly gas and telecommunications), the reform of the educational system and the reform of Public Administration is highlighted.

The London-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a leading centre of global economic and political analysis, ranked Portugal among the most peaceful nations of the world in its ‘Global Peace Index’.

Europa em Números – O Eurostat Yearbook 2008, que é publicado pelo EUROSTAT, o Serviço de Estatística das Comunidades Europeias, fornece aos utilizadores de estatísticas oficiais uma visão de conjunto da riqueza da informação. Mostra como evoluiram indicadores chave durante os últimos onze anos na União a 27, Zona Euro, Estados Membros e Países Candidatos. Dados para os países EFTA, Estados Unidos e Japão são incluídos sempre que disponíveis.

O relatório "Economic Policy Reforms: Going for Growth 2008", divulgado pela OCDE, traça um panorama dos progressos alcançados nas políticas estruturais nos 30 países da OCDE. No que respeita a Portugal, salientam-se os progressos registados em áreas importantes para a competitividade, como na redução das barreiras à entrada nas indústrias de rede (sobretudo gás e telecomunicações), a reforma ao nível do ensino,ou a reforma ao nível da Administração Pública.

O “Economist Intelligence Unit‚, um dos mais importantes centros de análise económica e política global, colocou Portugal entre os países mais pacíficos mundo no seu “índice Mundial da Paz‚.
