Portugal rises 5 ranks in the Global Competitiveness Index 2007-2008

According to the Global Competitiveness Report 2007-2008 (GCI) released by the World Economic Forum, Portugal occupies the 40th position in the Global Competitiveness Index within 131 countries and the 17th position in the context of the EU.

Portugal improves for the second year its position in the ranking “Doing Business” of the World Bank

Portugal occupies now the 37th position in ranking of the study “Doing Business 2008” of the World Bank, which evaluates the environment for business, and which corresponds to an improvement of three positions compared to the previous edition and of eight positions with regard to 2005. Portugal thus shows explicitly that it can be considered as example of a country that effectively implements positive reforms in the area of business.

Portugal is the world's seventh best country regarding e-government

The Brown University's study "Global E-Government Report", presented yesterday by the Cabinet of the National Coordinator for the Lisbon Strategy and the Technological Plan, ranks Portugal on seventh place of 198 countries of the world in the ranking of their development concerning electronic government, and as second best country of the 27 countries of the European Union, only overcome by Great Britain.
